Reticulated Pythons (Python reticulatus) Here at Constrictors Unlimited, we love our big snakes. Reticulated Pythons are the "King" of Pythons and of all snakes for that matter. Until recent years, Reticulated Pythons were not commonly kept, much less bred in captivity. Thanks to the ground breaking work of people like Bob Clark, our knowledge of the Reticulated Python has been greatly increased. This python has been touted as the smartest of the pythons, and that has been our experience as well. Much of the "bad reputation" of Reticulated Pythons was formulated based on wild caught specimens that tended to be defensive, as most wild caught snakes will be. As we have bred more successive generations of retics, we are seeing emerge a true gentle giant. Dwarf Retics There are some insular, island populations of reticulated pythons that grow much more slowly and will not attain the giant size of their mainland counterparts. We are working with a number of these pythons and some are truly tiny retics. In order to get the desired genetic mutations bred into the smaller lines, we have bred Albinos and Tigers with the Jampea and Super Dwarf retics. There has only been one genetic mutation found in the Dwarf populations, the Genetic Striped Reticulated Python, the rest are crosses combining normals with the known dwarfs. Unless otherwise noted, all of the animals pictured in this section are owned, maintained and bred right here at the Constrictors Unlimited facility.
