for my boas cages i use lights to help up the cool side when needed. but the reb bulb seems to make my female boa eyes dialate. where the younger boas eyes dont. i tried a night glo bulb and still same thing. whats a good bulb i can use that will not bother her eyes. i was looking at IR bulbs and or CHE for the added cool side heat. the bulb is on a on/off cycle with the ultratherm pad. and how fast do the CHE eat up.
heres a picture of how the lamp is installed on the females cage.

Ceramic heat emitters are fantastic for boas because snakes don't need light. They heat up in less than 10 seconds and keep the cage at pretty good temperatures. Definitely cover it, though, because it gets super hot on the surface of it (I've accidentally burnt myself more than a few times, very painful!).

It shouldn't really be a problem to have your snakes eyes getting dialated.. Lights are fine.
the way that light is positioned it doesnt look like its really doin anything for that bottom end of cage anyways. if thats going to be her last enclosure, instead of 30-35$ for a ceramic emitter i would opt for another ultratherm for that end and set it for 80-82 degrees and forget about the lights

Shes right on, Ceramic heat emiters are they way to go if your gonna use a heat lamp. They last alot longer than your normalbulbs, and it is worth the money. You can also get them up to 500 watts, which is what i would use for that big ass tank... Plus no light. And make sure your fixture is set up to run ceramic. The acctual port that sticks out the back of the shield is ceramic.

I think they have mostly changed to be able to fit in any light socket. I use the same socket in my tegu's cage for a UV light during the day and a ceramic heat emitter at night (until I get a chance to re-wire it because changing it twice a day is obnoxious).

Yea, I would be careful doing that. As far as I know you should only run ceramic, with ceramic, but im no exspert, but the difference with ceramic and plastic, is that under extreme heat, plastic melts.. Leave it in there for a few days, and see what happens. How many watts is yours?

well i got a 100 watt IR bulb for 10 bucks and a 60 watt CHE for 10$ and the temps stay at 80 near bottom. just i cant see boas eyes yo see fi the IR is affecting her. if not im fine wit that if so ill go to the CHE. and its mounted outsid th cage as u can see by 2 layers of screen .5'' apart.
