The arachnid forum stays quite dead most of the time, haha.
But anyway.
I have this small bulletin board type thing in my room, and on each corner, I have a fake tarantula with tacks superglued to the undersied, stuck in each corner. Under the legs of the one in the bottom right corner is where one of my spiders (Zygiella x-notata.. yeah, I've got a couple of 'em now, haha) decided to make her little hideout for when she's not up in her web. Cute, eh? I thought so. It was weird, I JUST noticed it last night when I was going to bed, because the web is like, right over my head while I'm sleeping (Creepy? I find it kinda comforting, but maybe that's just me, haha) so she must have built it yesterday during the day (I keep my light off most of the time, because a lot of my spiders are mostly noctournal) but I've become oddly attached already. So I woke up this morning, and there was something crawling on the butt of the fake tarantula that she lives under, and I thought, "Cool, she's out!" so I got my lay ass out of bed, to see her. Well, it WASN'T my spider. She was scrunched up under the toy tarantula's legs, looking scared as all hell, as this wasp crawled over HER home, and right under the legs of the fake tarantula. I was like "GAH! I don't think so!!" Haha, so I grabbed a pen and poked the spider to the side, she crawled up her web realllyyy fast, haha, then I poked the wasp out (I wanted to be able to get the wasp without harming her or her little silk "hub" under the toy tarantula's legs) and caught it in a jar, and took it outside.
And I'll say, it's lucky it got off that easily. Because I was ready to kill the damn thing, but I'm not quite *that* mean. Ya just don't mess with my spiders.

I heard an interesting statistic once. It said that the average person swallows a couple of spiders in their sleep every year. I don't know anything about spiders, but I'm guessing that they like to find warm hideouts? I wonder if that statistic is accurate.

Well, generally, yes. Spiders like it where it's warm and seemingly safe. Once, I lost one of my tarantulas (a G. rosea, she was hanging out in the living room in her tank, and somehow pushed the lid off... they're stronger than you'd think) and I found her behind the computer monitor. My friend lost her H. lividum and also found it, behind her TV. Haha. So if you ever lose a tarantula, think of some of the warmest places in the house and look there first.
But I don't worry about my Z. x-notata. Basically, once she's made her safe happy little home, she won't leave unless she has reason to. But she's under the impression that nobody knows she's under the legs of that fake tarantula, it's HER hideout now, she's claimed it and so far as she's concerned, nobody knows she's there, haha. Cute, eh? I'm sure she'll build her silk "hub" under there so it's true that she isn't visible, she's somewhat started to, but yeah, she's still visible right now, haha.

Ohh man, I KNEW having a web right over where my head is when I sleep would DEFINITELY have it's interesting moments..
I went to bed at some ridiculous hour last night (well, like, 3:30AM-ish) and about 45 minutes after I laid down (I have some serious issues with my sleep schedule) I felt something small and mysterious crawl RIGHT over my face, haha. I KNEW it was her, so I just didn't move because I didn't want to hurt her.
Well, this morning I woke up and checked, and she was gone. I was kinda disappointed, I thought maybe she got lost, which is understandable because there are lots of fun things to get lost behind, in my room, I mean, I've almost done it (okay, so not really, but it would be cool). Then I got home tonight, at about 1:30AM, and I went down to my room and sure enough, she was back in her web. She's now back in her little hideout under her toy tarantula's legs.
