View Full Version : Tortoise
I have a African spur thigh I rescued. He weighed 135grams when I got him in May. He now weighs 370.5 grams and his name is Dozer. When I first got him his shell was so soft you could squeeze it. Its nice and hard now.::) He is awesome to watch. In a few years he will be my new yard dog. I have to wait to put him outside on the ground because I am afraid Sampson may think he is a football. Can't have that happening now can we?

I have never had any tortoises, but i do like them. I just never seemed to like them enough to keep as a pet.

I really like the leopard tortoises though
Leopards are cool too.
We keep a Sulcata, a Leopard, and a pair of Hermann's.
I like the big torts, but the Hermann's have TONS of personality for a little tort. I'd recommend them to just about anyone wanting a tortoise, but not a HUGE one!
Our male Hermann's is less than 10" at 8 years of age.

yes hermans are great
a m8 of mine (i mentioned him on another topic) breeds most spp. of tort
he was the first in the U.K. to breed some of the tropical spp.
i may see if i can encorage him to join us on here but he doesnt get much free time with 400+ torts!
That is a good size for a pet..I wanted something alittle bigger because I have a black lab.

I think all torts are cool. I think that Leopards are the nicest, that and Star torts. They are the Aston Martins of the tort world. But my favorite tort is the redfoot. They are so personable and vividly colored to. You can go to my website and check out my reds, I have a 1.2 and am looking to get more. The only bad thing about torts is that they are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE DISPOSALS! LOL.
