Awesome to find another forum with people that have some Anacondas! I figured I would share some pics on here of my condas.:)
Murinus: I read in the forum before, that you were having trouble getting your conda to eat rodents... Try getting whatever size you want, thawing it out (with or without quail scenting), dangle it's body over the waterbowl (if the snake is soaking) turn out all the lights and leave it alone for at least 3 hours, this trick has worked a billion times for me.

Thanks Murinus, there are a few others tricks like dipping the rodents head in warm chicken broth, thawing them out with quail, maybe try a collosal rat... Those things smell so bad, it's the only thing any of my Greens still snap at, otherwise they never snap. All of my Green Anacondas (including the Anery) have 100% awesome temperments, my marbled yellow has a bit of a feeding response in cage, and every once in awhile a squirm, but other than that, she is very handable.:)

Do they have a picking food diet??

They look awesome!!! Where did you get that Anery Green from....it almost has like a steel blue hue to it.
Ben_Renick
10-11-2005, 05:57 PM
Male or Female, they are still a nice load to take care of.:)
Jessica: The snake being captive bred or wild caught REALLY makes a difference in this speices. Most wild caughts will have more of a wild temperment and some may calm down, some may not, it's just a chance. Most c/b Anacondas calm down fairly nice as long as you continue to handle them. For the most part they do have a pretty picky food diet. Some start off on Rodents, but most of the time you have to leave them alone to eat, or start them off on quail.
BNixon: The Anery is an Import from Guyana, which is a very lucky thing he is tame and feeding on f/t rodents!:)

on anaconda temperement, my personal experience is green babies are far more tractable than yellows. dont get me wrong as my big female yellow has always been fine and i know 2 other people that have tame yellows, but as babies they seem far more nippy than all the greens i have come across hth

lol Well, I'm not going to disagree with Murinus, because he is right. But you just haven't been able to deal with some of the greens I have, lol, because I have dealt with some bad ones. These of course were wild caught, but either way. From what I've seen, Yellows tend to calm down really fast within the first month of handling. I've had one that actually stop snapping at its food within a month and was the tamest thing in the world. As far as Greens taming down, it's taken at least 2 months for some, these were wild caught of course, but they would take so many snaps at me. And then moving on to Hybrid Anacondas, well let me tell you, those just DO NOT calm down, lol. I've never seen a tame Green x Yellow Anaconda. The 12' female I just sold about 2 months ago was horrible, I opened the cage one time and it almost took a chunck out of my side. But really, I still think it's all depending on the snake, there are really tame greens and yellows and really not so tame ones.:)

hi ben, thanks for the pics, she does look very nice ! must admit i wouldnt like to deal with a nasty anaconda out of choice, i had a male yellow, not that big around 5 foot but he was totally untrustworthy. how big was your yellow x ? havent heard or seen any for sale over here in the uk at all, are they expensive ? have you been bitten by any of your larger annies ? thanks
edit :doh ! just read she was 12ft :D
Ben_Renick
10-13-2005, 03:01 PM
Thanks! She was deffidently a gorgeous snake, but I wanted a Tame Green female to breed out, so that's how that worked out..:) As far as price goes, it depends on the snake and who is selling it. They can be quite expensive, but average is around $400 so far from what I've seen. I sold mine for only $350 with pick-up, because I needed to move her out ASAP.
Yes, I have been bitten by her in fact. She pulled the average Anaconda Side-Snap on me and got my hand. But she didn't stay attached, it was a quick bite and let go.

side snap lol yes i know that move, different to a python ! without wanting to sound like i want to see gore, do you have any pics from your bites ? might be best to pm them if you do although i think bite pics are very good for education and should serve as a reminder of what our 'tame' snakes can and sometimes do by nature ? i might even put a post about this topic ???

10-13-2005, 04:52 PM
Sorry, I didn't have my Camera with me when it happened sadly to say... lol, if you did want to see gore though, that would have been the picture to look at! As soon as she got off my hand, blood just squirted out, it bled for a good two hours. Not a pretty site, luckly it wasn't even a really bad bite. I've seen pictures of someone that had a 12' super tiger bite them, they had stitches AND staples all over their hand, it was horrible. I don't mean like 3 stitches either, I'm talking past 20. But if I ever get bitten again, I will be sure to take a pic. It could still happen with my Marbled Yellow, she still has an nice feeding response. With my Greens, I'm not so sure of it, I could pet their heads and they wouldn't even budge.:) On that note, I got some more pics just a bit ago, I was cage cleaning, and figured I would take my girl out for a bit, considering she isn't pregnant, there is no harm.:)
She doesn't look as big as she is though, and deffidently doesn't look like she weighs as much as she does. I broke a sweat just carrying her down the stairs. It's like balancing 70 lbs on you shoulders with it moving and you walking down stairs, lol. But here she is
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a331/Ben_Renick/Female%20Green%20Anaconda/PICT2005.jpg
And just for a better color shot of my male, here he is hiding. This guy is so great, I can't wait to put them together.:)

This little guy took down his first small rat yesterday, gotta love him. Can't wait to put him with a female either!:)

I'm taking a break, the Yellows cage is next, but I don't know if I will get pics or not, she just took down a Jumbo/Collosal rat yesterday, and she is usually pretty hostile after she eats, but we will see.:)

ben i have to say that the colour of your male is AMAZING !!!!!!!! :049[1]:
i have just fed my green and yellow and i have more good news, the green ate mice again which is good, but it also took a small rat while eating one of the mice ! i really would love to get it to eat rats and get a bit of girth on it.
Ben_Renick
10-13-2005, 05:09 PM
lol yeah... I've had that guy since he was a neonate... He is a pretty good feeder, he doesn't snap anymore, and everyonce in awhile he will take 1-2 lbs rabbits, mainly if they are thawed with a collosal rat. But once you thow a collosal rat in there, he is all over it, that's the only thing he still snaps at and has never refused. All of this is frozen thawed by the way, lol.
Good going on your Green, it's weird that it wont take rats and it will take mice... Usually that's an easy switch... Just thaw them out together and rub them all over eachother, after that, try the rat first, and if it doesn't take it, then feed it the mouse... Is it about 4' or so? W/c or C/b?

i got it when it was around 4.5ft its now 6ft hence me laughing at him/her taking mice (they are like little chicken nuggets to it) and i would guess it would definately have been wc especially being in the uk. he was tame when i got him. how old is your male now ? also how big was your yellow x when you got her ? also keep those amazing pics coming (more of the hybrid? ) ;)
on the switching to rats, i dont know if i already said but this is only the second time he has taken rodents, so even taking mice is a good step for me. hopefully this will be the start of good things and maybe rats will happen soon :D

while i am trying to get my house ready to sell i have temporarily put my yellow and green together, this isnt a permanent thing but they are ok together short term. here they are looking like best buddies although to be fair i think they prefer being on their own.

My male is a little over 2 yrs. now. I got the Hybrid when it was about 7-8' long. So about as big as my male is now. Yes, I have more of the hybrid, but only so many, lol. I will post some more later, but I can't continue to update them, considering I don't have the snake anymore. Sadly, it's hard to keep in touch with the guy I sold the hybrid to, considering he doesn't have email, but we still call eachother every now and then. He has 2 Hybrids, and like 4 Greens I think. Really nice guy and he showed me pics of all his room setups in his basement, deffidently a good home. And no, she wont come around, shes too old, she will probably be like that for the rest of her life. Or at least very untrustworthy...
Well if this is the second time, don't switch over to anything else, once the snake takes it once, it will take it again, so continue it on the feeding routine, and just keep trying rats, sooner or later it will be hungry enough to take them... By the way, both of your condas are VERY beautiful, I love the bright yellow, and the green is very awesome also! Keep some pics coming!
Be careful when you are housing them together like that though, if either one has a hardy appetite, you can count on some scars on the other one, and also, the stress of the Green being with the yellow is deffidently not going to help your feeding situation... Just a little heads up, it's going to be a lot harder to get it to eat during this time...:)

Yes, I've thought about it, and will probably give it a shot sometime with the marbled, but no guarentee as of right now. The Anery will probably be bred to a Green first though, but either way a Green to the marbled would still be a sight to see.:)

I've handled a small Yellow like that before also. There are basically two ideas to go by, using the hook training approach, or take the bite, lol. I'm sure if you just handled her more she would calm down. My 6' Marbled Yellow was like that whenever I first got her in, she had a major feeding response in the cage, but she was perfectly fine when I handled her. I just used a hook to get her out for about 2 weeks, and now she is perfectly fine with my reaching my hand in and getting her and everything.:) Beautiful Yellow by the way!:) She will deffidently be a gorgeous adult!:)

well thank you very much the last 2 nights i've been holding her for about an 1 1/2 at a time and this morning i reached in to grab her and she didn't strike but it looked like she really wanted 2. o and by the way i forgot to mention lovely annies you got i've seen them on a few diff sites....when did you get that stunning male green???
Ben_Renick
01-01-2006, 04:18 PM
Thanks!:)
Yeah, hopefully overtime she will calm down very nice for you.:) Sometimes Anacondas act up a lot more in the winter either way though. So keep that in mind also.:
I got my male green from a place called Cold Blooded Creations, about 3 yrs. ago. He started off fairly dark as a baby, basically with every shed he became lighter and lighter. His scale texture is actually different from my Female Greens also, his scales are very smooth and silky and my females are more rough and textured. My anerythristic Green Anaconda has the same scale texture as my male also, so I'm hoping my Anerys scales will be really smooth and silky as it grows also.
Thanks!

Have any of you seen this yet?
Is this right...$75,000?
Ben_Renick
01-02-2006, 10:54 AM
No... I don't think there would be any possible way my Green would be het. for Anery. I don't think Anerys have been bred in captivity yet, and if they have, I think the person selling it would have known it was het. because it would be worth A LOT more.:) It's probably just genetics with the scales, I think most of them have more silky and smooth scales compared to rough.:)
ssscales: Yeah, that's pretty much the only one in the world.lol. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on it.:) I'm actually suprised he's not trying to get more from it. I know he had a pair and he lost the female, so this male is the only one known in captivity, or even alive for that matter. Whoever owns that snake has a responsibility with it, lol.:) It HAS to be bred out, especially for the fact that if I can get a female albino, then I could make snows!:) Which I think would be a very nice thing to the Anaconda world to throw out a new morph.:)
