I have a freind with 3 GTP's and he is going to sell me one. 2 are a year old and both are in a 20gallon together and his adult is in a 30 gallon. i was curious if I got one of the 1 year olds if I could put him in a 29 gallon?can he stay in there for the remainder of his life?

What are the measurments of that tank? It's possible, but more space will make cleaning a lot easier.

30L x 12w x 18h and that is in inches. I have also been told not to keep them in a glass tank, what is the problem with a glass tank? thank you for your response.

Since these snakes are arboreal a fish tank wouldn't be all that good for them because they are long, not tall. Also trying to keep a warm humid tank with a screen top is a real hassle.

my wife and i were thinking of getting a 30 x-tall, wich is 24in high and 24in wide and 12in back. do you think that would work? and i have frogs in a glass tank and have no problem with humidity. I just cover part of it and mist 3 times a day. i guess i am looking for a rule of thumb for the size of an enclosure for an aboreal snake.?

that should be good for awhile If i remember right the smallest size for an adult is at least 2ftx2ftx2ft

Glass tanks are just harder to setup. That doesn't mean that they can't work. Not all fish tanks are short and long.

Thats true, some are tall, but most seem to have more length then height.

thanks guys. one more question , I know that there is a general rule for snakes that the enclosure should be a certain ratio to their body length. is there a ratio for aboreal snakes?

Not really. My generalizations would be a 2 foot cube is just fine for the largest of adult gtps. As for a length ratio, arboreal species leave a much smaller foot print and would seem to require less space to length in ratio terms. You will see them all stretched out, but for very short periods typically.

I don't think 2 snakes should be together unless trying to breed.
That is a liltte advise..but then again I don;t know a lot about this spices. [sp]

If you read the thread, he's not trying to house them together. He's asking about enclosure size for one animal.
